Will the next train be late?

I have a friend who runs with me to the Railway Station after work. Now people might wonder as to why we run..We run to catch the earliest possible train from out of Colombo.

So today, since my friend’s boss asked him to stay a bit longer, not only did we miss one but four slow trains towards Down South. While waiting for the next train which was due in 10 minutes, they announced that it will be running a bit late. Now I was supposed to go to my boarding place, freshen up a bit and drive to Galle, to a funeral of a relative of a work colleague. (Did I use too many to‘s & of‘s ??)

Mind you, I’m having a bad cold with a sore throat & my voice has been of a 60 year old grumpy old man’s. Having had to survive  9 1/2 hrs at work, my plan was to then go to Galle and return to my bed at early dawn, again to go back to work next morning with a possible tumor in my brain.

Anyhoo, thanks to the Railway drivers who were අකුරට වැඩ today, I’m nicely sitting on my bed, typing this while sipping on කොත්තමල්ලි which the kind house owner made me drink after a long lecture about not going to see a doctor. All I could do was nod which must have looked rather stupid coz I couldn’t talk with my voice gone to the dogs.

What I really wanted to tell you is that this is quite a normal scenario for someone who’s traveling by train. Trains are delayed all the time. For the most unbelievable reasons. Sometimes they test our patience by stopping the Express Train at every station and sending the Slow Train 05 minutes behind the Express which also stops everywhere..කාට කියන්නද ?

The reason for today’s delay I was told was the interdiction of the driver who rammed his train into the observation rail car of the Kandy – Colombo Intercity Express. Whether he’s guilty or not, I don’t know, but it certainly ain’t my problem either.

People in this damned island need to make use of time. Buy yourself a watch honorable minister. Wear that watch, go to the Fort railway station and liaise with the timekeeper. Better yet, you do that job coz the one who’s in charge isn’t of no use to the people who are tired of working & waiting to get home sooner.

Then again I wish that I had the luxury to drive and maintain something like this which was seen at the Carlton 7′s Rugby Tournament, last Saturday.

  1. I wish I had a ride like that too….

Somehow I love Jeeps, SUVs and sports cars better…. :-)

  2. Click on the image to see the actual size of it…Itz a Jaguar XJ..(drools)
You should have seen the interior..pure orgasmic stuff..:-)

There were 03 more Mercs of the same latest issue..probably owned by Namal Rajapakse coz they were inside the stadium..A mammoth size Lexus (my favourite) parked right in front of ‘Agra’ and also a nice Crown Hybrid which is rather hard to find in SL..

  3. Aren’t Hybrids still giving a bit of trouble and supposed to be high maintenance? Been doing a bit of research and talking to people about it. Prius is problematic and has been from the beginning. Honda Insight seems to be alright. But I’m told that since it’s got a high electrical voltage, when it comes to repairs and checking, there’s a system involved in which you’v to first disengage the power and all that and then attend to the checking or repairing…

I just like to know about these… not that I can afford one.. though I wish! :-) Not the Hybrid really, but a jeep or SUV.:)

  4. damn…
Did I just get a lecture on Hybrid cars? Cool :)

Hybrid cars are prone to damage which will cost you 1000′s more than it does for a normal automobile..There are censors everywhere connected to circuits all over the place and even if one goes off the whole unit needs to be replaced, as in the case of a buffer..
Floods could also blow up the circuits…battery replacements are costly..

But like you said, Honda is a better choice than Toyota..It always is, even with normal cars. Honda engines are very powerful & durable ones compared with others but maintenance tends to go a bit over budget..

You are a Jeep freak nah….
Most Kandy SC top players drive the JEEP Commando, compliments by Mr. Malik Samarawickrama..
Since you mentioned sports cars, my favourite is the Honda Civic Ferio Vi-RS..My friend owned one..
You should get a VW Beetle..the yellow kind..It’s more lady like (yellow), elegant, & sporty looking as well..should suit a girl like ya really well. :)

  5. I HATE yellow… Not much of a VW fan either..though their cars are sexy alright.

I’ve the beetle model Swift. a hot red one with sexy alloys and it’s manual coz I’m not much of a fan of auto gears either… that way I have more control of my speed…..:) Looks a wee bit sporty and girly.. but I would LOVE to have the Honda Civic Ferio RS. A few of my friends have it and it’s such a pleasure to ride.. Honda cars have awesome pick up too….

    Someday…. someday…

and thanks for the info on Hybrids. didn’t know most of it… :)

  6. You’re the first person (girl) I’ve come across who’s not a fan of the VW Beetle..
Though I tend to picture you as the girly type, you’re not, right? You’re the Georgina or ‘George’ as they call her in Famous Five.. :)
Manual gears proves my point. ;)

btw, that’s everything that I knew about Hybrid cars..the rest I learnt from you.. :)

  7. I’m a mix…. of George and Anne. Used to be tough like George and has now grown to be too soft life Anne… grrrr!

So yes, I’ve become girly… but with varying tastes in different things in life.. like cars!!! ;)

  8. A mix of George & Anne eh? You should put that up on ya profile.. ;)
